What to Wear and Bring to an Outdoor Bootcamp

Outdoor bootcamps are simple to get started with, but wearing the right kit can make your first session much more comfortable.

You do not need expensive gear. You just need clothes and footwear that let you move safely.

Wear comfortable, breathable clothing

Choose clothing you can squat, run, stretch and move in. Breathable fabrics are usually better than heavy cotton, especially if the session is energetic.

Avoid jeans, stiff clothing or anything that restricts movement.

Choose suitable trainers

Footwear matters. Wear trainers with enough grip for grass and outdoor movement.

The ground may be damp or uneven, so avoid fashion trainers, heavy shoes or footwear with poor support.

Bring water

Bring a large bottle of water and take sips when needed. Outdoor training can be surprisingly demanding, even when the weather is cool.

Children should also bring water to kids sessions.

Dress for the weather

Outdoor fitness continues through different conditions, so layers are useful. In cooler weather, wear a light layer you can remove once you warm up.

In warmer weather, choose lighter clothing and consider sun protection.

Expect grass or mud

Outdoor bootcamps take place on grass, so clothes may get grassy or muddy. Wear something you are comfortable moving in and do not mind washing afterwards.

That is part of the outdoor experience.

Tell the coach about injuries

If you have an injury, medical concern or movement limitation, tell the coach before the session starts. Exercises can often be adapted.

For children

Children should wear comfortable active clothing, suitable trainers and bring water. Avoid jeans, school shoes or thick heavy clothing.
